We've been working on the girls' bedroom makeover and it's finished!
The first picture is a reminder of what the room looked like
before we began the makeover.
It was just a hodge podge of rundown furniture and wall decals galore.
| The bed with the peeling paint is gone, to my husband's delight, and the toddler bed is retired, sniffle. |
Here's what the room looks like now!
| The girls love it! The bunk beds have been a great choice (so far). |
| On the wall just outside the closet I hung flower pegs for the girls to hang up tomorrow's outfit to help eliminate the "what to wear" scramble in the mornings, and so we could stop hanging them over the banister in the hallway as well. |
| Here it is closer up. |
| The framed Bible verse reads, "She is clothed with Strength and Dignity and laughs without Fear of the Future." Proverbs 31:25. I found it on Pinterest here. |
| The glitter wall. Painted pink in Glidden's Disney paint called Butterfly Fly By, with the All That Glitter Topcoat. |
| We call this wall the Bubble Wall. |
| I painted this silhouette of our youngest daughter blowing bubbles, using Glidden's Disney Great Slate Tintable Chalkboard paint (in Disney's Pretty as a Princess, available only at Walmart) and contact paper (tutorial to follow). |
| DIY dress up shelf with pink crystal knobs. FYI: The words in the frame read, " I pray that you always seek God first, His Wisdom, His Righteousness, and know then your true worth...more precious than rubies!" I think I'll change the matte in the frame to something else, likely with shimmer. |
| Hubby's semi-artsy tulip shot. :) |
| This blue silhouette is of our eldest daughter blowing dandelion spores, and it was also done using Glidden's Disney line of speciality paint, Great Slate, tintable chalkboard paint, mixed with some paint I had on hand (Toon Afternoon, also a former Disney paint). This chalkboard paint has great coverage. |
| A closer look. |
| Another shot of Disney's All That Glitters speciality topcoat. It was very easy to apply, and covered in just one coat! |
| I'm so glad I decided to try a second speciality finish from the new line of paint. The chalk circles above the desk are perfect for writing notes, etc. I'd even like to create something with this paint in our master bedroom soon. FYI: I recovered the desk chair with glittered twinkle fabric (from Walmart) to match the pink glitter wall. |
| The "Just us Girls" artwork was given to me by a dear friend, and it fit the color scheme of the room well. The bird feather butterfly clips are from Michael's (clipped to wall using push pins, an idea I got from this blog). I DIYed a Walmart lamp shade with rose ribbon and more butterfly clips. |
| I'm still tweaking this wall above the dresser, which is why the art is simply propped up against the wall. I saw a version of this Scripture art (middle canvas) on Pinterest and made one that fit my color choices. The verse is Proverbs 3:5; I still need to add that to the canvas. |
| It was a rainy, overcast day, but you can see the glitter's shimmer above the window valance here. |
| All That Glitters and the twinkles I painted close-up. |
So, there's the room, revealed.
Now for
more fun, the Reveal PARTY details!
| Some of our lovely guests arriving, a queen, and her two little princesses. :) |
Frankly, I normally would not throw a party
just to reveal a room makeover in my own home, but it was required part of this blogging opportunity with the Disney Paint program. I must say, it was a blast to throw a party to showcase a newly decorated room, get to giveaway prizes to my friends,
and paint with glitter and chalkboard paint! I'd gladly do it again!
At the party, we revealed the room makeover to some friends and their daughters. Check out their reactions.
| Ta-da! I love the look on our little friend's face! |
| The girls checking out the room. |
| They were all smiles and kind compliments. |
| My sweet friend here (who can usually be found holding someone else's baby), said "I just want to hang out in here all day." I think that means she liked the room makeover. :) |
| We gave the princesses some chalk to try out the Great Slate chalkboard paint. It held up great and the girls loved it. |
| You can really see the sparkle of the pink glitter wall in the background here. |
| I added mirrored circles to add the the bubble effect, but the girls were too into writing on the chalk circles to notice them. |
| A great feature of the Great Slate tintable chalkboard paint is that it can be mixed with any latex paint to create a custom color, so you can use the Disney colors, or pick your own. For the silhouette and most of the bubbles I used Disney's Pretty as a Princess. For the blue and orange bubbles I mixed an untinted quart of the tintable chalkboard with colors I had at home in separate bowls (more on that in another post). |
Next it was time to eat!
| Pink lemonade cupcakes. |
Honeydew stars and white grapes were used to make fruit kabobs wands. |
I also got to giveaway a $50 dollar Walmart gift card at the Paint Princess party as part of the Glidden Painting program!
| To win the gift card we played Bible trivia, as most of these ladies are friends from our church. The winner had to name the verse I read from the Bible. "Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised." Did you get it right? They all knew it was from Proverbs 31, but the winner named the exact verse, 30. |
For the kids we played Disney's Scene It game, where you hear or watch a clip from a Disney movie and name the movie, character, etc. The kid prize was art supplies and princess lip gloss.
The kids also decorated their own royal crowns and made princess pink Sugar Scrub.
| Decorating their crowns with gems, markers, etc. |
| The sugar scrub is simply dish soap and sugar, but it smells wonderful. |
| The girls making the sugar scrub wearing the crowns they decorated. |
We also set up a photo opp for the princesses. We'd done something similar for our daughter's fourth birthday party, we just added the spray painted picture frame this time.
| The littlest princess. She couldn't hold up the picture frame yet, but she's too cute to leave out! |
We had a great time. You can find a how to post for
the bubble wall and silhouettes here.) I will post a few of the other DIY projects later.
A final look:

So tell me, what do you think? Any favorite parts? The glitter wall? The bubble wall? Something else?
A huge thanks to Glidden and the Disney Paint program for allowing me to participate in this wonderful opportunity. My girls now have a lovely space they can share (with each other and friends), hopefully for years to come!
If you'd like to check out more about all the great paint options and speciality finishes available in this new line you can visit the
Disney Paint Website here. The speciality finishes are also available to order online at
Walmart.com.
And a special thanks to my friends for coming to the reveal party and being such great sports about having their pictures taken...love you ladies!
And to my husband, the semi-pro photographer and duct-tape artist extraordinaire, thank you. ;)

DeleteI'm SO impressed! My favorite of all is the silhouettes of the girls! I have two little princesses that need something different in their room. I painted a special trellis wall, but painting the rest pink as well, was a BIG MISTAKE. I will be changing that up, thanks to your beautiful re-do!
